I was listening to Moody Radio the other day. They are a commercial free Christian station. But in between segments where we would usually hear commercials they run these little moments. One that they run is called Lessons for Leaders. It usually highlights some aspect that we can take away to improve on our leadership skills. So this week Wayne Peterson ( the host) was talking about Starbucks and how it is built on 5 principles that he felt could be applied to work, your life, your ministry (http://www.moodyradio.org/uploadedFiles/Broadcasting/Programs/Library/PDF/Lessons_for_Leaders/2013/07.01.13.pdf ). After I heard it I was convinced he was right and I would add that it can be applied to our weight loss journey or journey to a healthy lifestyle.
So here are the principles:
• Everything matters;
• Pay attention to the details.
• Surprise and delight; don’t let life, business or ministry get boring.
• Embrace resistance; hardships of life create solutions and build character.
• And finally: leave your mark.
Everything matters—count everything, monitor everything, all efforts count!
Pay attention to details—while it might be a pain, weighing and measure helps, writing things down helps, level of intensity matters
Surprise and Delight-try new things, challenge yourself, do things that are outside of your comfort zone, meet new people
Embrace Resistance—when things get hard (and they should) take that as a personal challenge to conquer that challenge, pull out that mantra or “I AM” statement and shout it loud and clear
Leave your mark—I am not talking about a puddle of sweat (but that works to some extent). I am talking about being a role model for your children and others in your life. Be an example to others can look to and want to emulate!
